چکیده

The first 3D virtual human model was designed and animated by means of the computer in the late ’70s. Since then, virtual character models have become more and more popular, making a growing population able to impact the everyday real world. Starting from simple and easy-tocontrol models used in commercial games, to more complex virtual assistants for commercial or informational Web sites, to the new stars of virtual cinema, television, and advertising, the 3D character model industry is currently booming. Moreover, the steady improvements within the distributed network area and advanced communication protocols have promoted the emergence of 3D communities and immersion experiences (Thalmann, 2000) in distributed 3D virtual environments.

Expressive Animated Agents for Affective Dialogue Systems

We present our current state of development regarding animated agents applicable to affective dialogue systems. A new set of tools are under development to support the creation of animated characters compatible with the MPEG-4 facial animation standard. Furthermore, we have collected a multimodal expressive speech database including video, audio and 3D point motion registration. One of the obje...

A MAYA Exporting Plug-in for MPEG-4 FBA Human Characters

The aim of this paper is to present a method and a tool to extract the full set of information from an animated character designed in Maya (animatable body only). The Maya plug-in generates the appropriate data as specified in the MPEG-4 FBA standard [2]. The result is composed of three different data sets: the BDP (Body Definition Parameters) describing the character geometry, the BAP (Body An...

MPEG-4 Compatible Faces from Orthogonal Photos

MPEG-4 is scheduled to become an International Standard in March 1999. This paper demonstrates an experiment for a virtual cloning method and animation system, which is compatible with the MPEG-4 standard facial object specification. Our method uses orthogonal photos (front and side view) as input and reconstructs the 3D facial model. The method is based on extracting MPEG-4 face definition par...

A Solution for Model-independent Animation of Mpeg-4 Faces

The technique proposed in this paper provides operative indications for implementing 3D head models compliant to the facial parameters recently standardized in MPEG-4, capable of being animated for reproducing the behavior of true human faces. The major contribution of this paper consists of an algorithmic proposal for MPEG-4 compliant model animation, independent of the particular 3D mesh used...

Creating and encoding of cartoons using MPEG-4 BIFS: methods and results

Our work focuses on the encoding of two–dimensional (2-D) graphics animated cartoons with MPEG-4. This stems from a need to stop encoding cartoons as videos and to start using methods more adapted to animated 2-D vector graphics sequences. We expected this could be an efficient coding with good versatility for various types of terminals. First, we present some technical specification for such c...
